Shadowfang Keep

Perched on a rugged bluff overlooking Pyrewood Village in southern Silverpine Forest, Shadowfang Keep is the dark lair of the mad Archmage Arugal and his feral worgen. Formerly known as Silverlaine Keep, the fortress fell to ravenous wolf-beasts summoned during the Third War, leaving its ancient halls haunted by the slain nobility and crawling with lupine horrors.

Fall of the Silverlaines

Before the Third War, this towering fortress was called Silverlaine Keep, the ancestral seat of Baron Silverlaine and the center of authority for nearby Pyrewood Village. When the Scourge swept through Lordaeron, desperate wizards sought forbidden means to stem the undead tide. Relying on the dimensional research of the Dalaran mage Ur, the Archmage Arugal summoned the extra-dimensional worgen into Azeroth. The savage beasts tore through the Scourge, but quickly spiraled out of control. Rampaging across southern Silverpine, the pack besieged the stronghold, slaughtering Baron Silverlaine, his family, and Commander Springvale's defenders. Guilt and grief shattered Arugal's sanity; rather than flee, he claimed the fortress, renaming it Shadowfang Keep and adopting the monstrous predators as his 'children.'

A Haunted Bastion

Today, Shadowfang Keep serves as the epicenter of a growing wolf curse that plagues Silverpine Forest. Arugal dwells in the highest observatory, flanked by his ravenous worgen—including the Moonrage and Shadowfang packs—and sinister beasts like his massive pet wolf, Fenrus. Below his sanctum, the restless ghosts of the keep's former lords, such as Baron Silverlaine and Commander Springvale, remain trapped in torment, cursed to endlessly defend the halls they failed to protect in life. From atop these walls, Arugal extends his insidious influence down into Pyrewood Village and the surrounding woodlands, posing a dire threat to the neighboring Forsaken who seek to purge the forest of his madness.
