Nethergarde Keep

Nethergarde Keep is a fortified Alliance stronghold perched high upon the bluffs along the road entering the Blasted Lands. Raised by the Alliance after the Second War, it stands as a vigilant sentinel over the dormant Dark Portal and the chaotic energies bleeding across the red wastes. Today, mages and garrisons supported by Stormwind continue their lonely vigil against demons and lingering corruption.

A Sentinel Against the Red World

Following the destruction of the Dark Portal at the end of the Second War, Archmage Khadgar and the leaders of the Alliance of Lordaeron recognized that Azeroth could never again leave the rift unguarded. Builders labored to raise towering bastions, barracks, and mage spires along the canyon pass into the Blasted Lands. Staffed by Kirin Tor sorcerers, its dual purpose was to keep constant watch on the shattered gateway and weave wards preventing the demonic blight of the scorched landscape from creeping northward into the human kingdoms.

The Lonely Vigil

When the Dark Portal reopened and the Alliance Expedition ventured into Draenor, Khadgar and his companions sealed the gateway behind them, leaving Nethergarde to guard a silent remnant. For two decades, scholars from Dalaran and the Wizard's Sanctum have analyzed the portal's lingering energies, mutated local fauna, and demonic incursions. With Dalaran ravaged during the Third War, Nethergarde relies entirely on vital supply caravans from Stormwind City to sustain its soldiers and mages as they stand alone against the horrors haunting the wasteland.
