The Onyxia explainer covers the character and the raids overview lists the others.

Where does the Onyxia attunement start?

For the Alliance, Blizzard names Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes and the quest Dragonkin Menace. For the Horde, Blizzard names Warlord Goretooth in the Badlands, at Kargath, and the quest Blood and Thunder. Both chains are listed step by step in the sections below.

What are the steps of the Alliance chain?

Blizzard's raid overview lists the Alliance chain step by step. It opens with Dragonkin Menace from Helendis Riverhorn in the Burning Steppes, which leads into six quests named The True Masters. Marshal Maxwell at Morgan's Vigil then sends you into Blackrock Depths for Marshal Windsor, and the chain runs through Abandoned Hope, A Crumpled Up Note, A Shred of Hope (Golem Lord Argelmach and General Angerforge) and Jail Break!. It continues to Stormwind with Stormwind Rendezvous, The Great Masquerade and Highlord Bolvar Fordragon's The Dragon's Eye. The last quest, Drakefire Amulet, takes you through Upper Blackrock Spire to take the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath. Blizzard spells the Stormwind squire's name two ways, Rower and Rowe, so do not rely on either spelling. Warcraft Wiki's Classic chain is longer by its count (16 steps) and includes a stop with Haleh in Winterspring, The two lists are not identical and neither source explains why, so treat Blizzard's list as the Forever one.

What are the steps of the Horde chain?

Blizzard's overview lists the Horde chain too. It starts with Blood and Thunder from Warlord Goretooth in Kargath, then Warlord's Command through Lower Blackrock Spire. Goretooth sends you to Eitrigg in Orgrimmar and then to Thrall, and in For the Horde! you return to Lower Blackrock Spire for the head of Warchief Rend Blackhand. After What the Wind Carries you find Rexxar on the roads of Desolace for The Champion of the Horde, then The Testament of Rexxar takes you to Myranda the Hag in the Western Plaguelands. She gives you Oculus Illusions. In Emberstrife you find the ancient drake of that name in Dustwallow Marsh, and he sends you after skulls in four The Test of Skulls quests. In Ascension... you receive the Dull Drakefire Amulet and take it to Rexxar. Rexxar sends you to Upper Blackrock Spire for the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion from General Drakkisath, and you return to Rexxar to receive the Drakefire Amulet.

What is the Drakefire Amulet?

Blizzard's overview says every raid member must carry the Drakefire Amulet to enter, and that it does not need to be equipped but must be in your inventory before you go in. Warcraft Wiki's Classic page lists a level 50 requirement for the amulet, which is not confirmed for Forever, and notes that a lost amulet can be replaced through Haleh or Rokaro in Classic. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable quest background as you play; it is fan-made. The Willo lore companion answers questions about the story.

What is not confirmed yet

  • Quest details: Blizzard names the quests and NPCs but gives no coordinates, and the squire's name is spelled two ways.
  • Account-wide: Warcraft Tavern says not at launch.
  • Level requirement: Warcraft Wiki's Classic level 50 requirement for the amulet is not confirmed for Forever.
