Alterac Mountains

The Alterac Mountains are a rugged, snow-capped range rising directly above the rolling pastures of Hillsbrad. Once the heart of a proud human kingdom, the slopes now harbor ruined settlements, bandit factions, and dangerous wilderness where travelers rarely walk unguarded.

Long before the hills fell into chaos, these highlands formed the sovereign nation of Alterac, one of the seven kingdoms born from ancient Arathor. That legacy shattered during the Second War when King Aiden Perenolde struck a clandestine pact with the Old Horde, allowing orcish forces passage through the peaks in exchange for his kingdom's safety. The Alliance of Lordaeron uncovered the betrayal and deposed Perenolde, leaving the region fractured by martial law and territorial disputes.
