Deathwing

Deathwing the Destroyer, once known as Neltharion the Earth-Warder, is the fallen Dragon Aspect of the black dragonflight. Driven mad by the dark whispers of the Old Gods, he turned against the other Aspects and plunged the world into fire and turmoil. Though defeated near Grim Batol after the Second War and believed slain or hidden away, the terror of his legacy still haunts the deep places of Azeroth.

The Fall of Neltharion

Before he was known as the Destroyer, Neltharion was granted dominion over the earth and the subterranean vaults of Azeroth by the titan pantheon. Yet dwelling so close to the world's deepest chambers exposed him to the insidious whispers of the imprisoned Old Gods. During the ancient War of the Ancients, the madness took complete hold. He deceived the other Dragon Aspects into imbuing a golden disc, the Dragon Soul, with portions of their essence under the guise of halting the Burning Legion, only to turn the terrible weapon against his allies and unleash catastrophic devastation.

The Brood Left Behind

In the present year, the mortal kingdoms largely assume Deathwing was destroyed or permanently driven from the world. However, the black dragonflight remains an active scourge across Azeroth. Led by his cunning brood, including his daughter Onyxia and son Nefarian, black drakes manipulate the politics of mortals and terrorize the landscape from mountain lairs. The scars of the black Aspect's ancient treachery run deep, and travelers wandering through craggy wastelands and deep subterranean tunnels still fear the stirring of the Great Dragon.
