WoW Forever Drowned City Dungeon Guide: Where to Go and Bosses
The Drowned City is a new five-player dungeon in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever): an ancient troll city that has risen from the sea off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol, built for levels 35 to 40. Blizzard gives that level range and location. Warcraft Tavern's hands-on preview says 35 to 45 instead, and no source has published quests, loot or full boss mechanics yet.
Quick answer: Dive below the water to find the entrance, according to Icy Veins. Names reported so far are Zul'Alai, Zin'aka, Var'Taka, Captain Dreadrise, Deathless Marrow, Gill and Min'loth the Serpent. Sources disagree on which are bosses and in what order.

Key facts
- Level range: 35 to 40 (Blizzard, Icy Veins, Wowhead, Warcraft Wiki). Warcraft Tavern's BlizzCon preview says 35 to 45.
- Location: Off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol (Blizzard).
- Entrance: "Dive below the water to find the entrance" (Icy Veins). No coordinates are published.
- Setting: Troll ruins lost beneath the waves have risen, with trolls and naga inside. Mist and rain build into a storm before the final fight (Blizzard, Icy Veins).
- Type: One of nine new dungeons in Forever, for five players (Blizzard).
- Quests and loot: Not published. Mobalytics lists both as "Available soon" (updated October 15, 2026).
Where is The Drowned City and how do you get in?
Blizzard's dungeon overview places The Drowned City off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol, for levels 35 to 40. Icy Veins repeats that location and says to dive below the water to find the entrance. Wowhead lists it as an "Ancient Troll Ruin" off the Stranglethorn coast and says the entrance is not stated.
Mobalytics goes further and names the site Gillijim's Isle, off the south-west coast. Warcraft Wiki describes Gillijim's Isle as a jungle troll island off the Stranglethorn coast that was removed during the game's alpha. Blizzard's own overview does not use that name, so treat it as one guide's label.
Horde players can reach Grom'gol by zeppelin: Warcraft Wiki says Orgrimmar's zeppelin towers connect to Grom'Gol Base Camp. For Alliance players, Warcraft Wiki lists Booty Bay among the Stormwind flight paths, but no source gives a route from there to the entrance.
What bosses are in The Drowned City?
No source gives a confirmed boss list, and the sources do not match.
- Warcraft Tavern (BlizzCon preview, September 14, 2026) describes two bosses from the show-floor demo. Zul'Alai is first, resembles a Sunken Temple encounter, and enrages strongly near death with heavy area hits. Zin'aka is second, higher level and described as much deadlier, able to overwhelm a tank.
- Mobalytics lists six names in order: Zul'Alai, Var'Taka, Captain Dreadrise, Deathless Marrow, Gill and Min'loth the Serpent. It gives no mechanics for any of them.
The two lists disagree on the second boss, and Zin'aka does not appear on Mobalytics at all. Until Blizzard publishes the encounter list, treat every name here as provisional.
What is it like inside?
Warcraft Tavern says the dungeon follows the usual troll-instance layout, like Zul'Farrak and the Sunken Temple. It starts linear, then opens into a large space as you go deeper, and the preview notes few confusing paths.
The mobs it describes:
- Early: makrura and small crabs.
- Deeper: risen undead troll sentries.
- Later: naga, described as the city's new masters.
The preview says the packs are tightly grouped. It calls the dungeon good for area-damage farming but potentially deadly for inexperienced groups. It also mentions a spooky water section where something large lurks, without naming it. Icy Veins adds that the dungeon is open-air, with a wrecked pirate ship nearby. Mobalytics says a party around level 37 finds it considerably more manageable. For group roles, see the dungeon groups guide and the tanks and healers guide.
What is the story of The Drowned City?
Blizzard says the ancient troll ruins, once lost beneath the waves, have risen from the ocean. Warcraft Tavern describes the same thing as a once-powerful troll city that sank into the deep sea and has returned, now full of horrors. Both sources agree that trolls and naga occupy it.
No source explains who built the city or why it rose. Some guides link boss names to older troll lore, but Blizzard has not confirmed any connection, so this guide does not repeat it. What is not confirmed yet?
- Level range: 35 to 40 (Blizzard) against 35 to 45 (Warcraft Tavern).
- Entrance: Only "dive below the water". No coordinates or flight route.
- Bosses: The number, names and order. Mechanics beyond two show-floor summaries.
- Quests and loot: None published.
- Playtest data: The public beta capped at level 30, according to Shacknews, below this dungeon's minimum level. Previews come from the BlizzCon show floor, not from live play.
Launch is November 4, 2026 (Warcraft Wiki, Shacknews), so these details may be filled in soon. For all nine new dungeons, see the dungeons overview.
