Uplands

The Uplands is a rolling, elevated territory in the northeastern Alterac Mountains that once served as the agricultural heartland of the fallen Kingdom of Alterac. Following the kingdom's collapse, the fertile hills fell entirely under the sway of the Syndicate. Today, the criminal organization maintains its strongest base of power here, fortifying multiple encampments across the slopes.

Breadbasket to Bandit Stronghold

Before the Second War broke Alterac apart, the hills of the Uplands were celebrated as the kingdom's breadbasket, providing grain and livestock to feed its mountain fortresses. When the core of the realm fell to ruin and infamy, the farming estates were abandoned by honest folk. In their place rose the Syndicate, led by dispossessed Alterac nobles and cutthroats determined to reclaim their stolen inheritance through force. The Uplands now represents the Syndicate's most heavily concentrated territory in the region, dotted with camps, patrols, and outposts like Dandred's Fold along its western borders.

A Seat of Shadows

Because the Syndicate commands these hills in force, high-ranking conspirators often oversee operations from the Uplands. Figures such as Baron Vardus, aligned with the shadowy leadership steering the remnants of Alterac's nobility, coordinate brigand movements, raids on neighboring valleys, and resistance against both the Alliance and Horde. Travelers crossing into the northeastern ridges face immediate hostility from entrenched highwaymen who view the entire range as their sovereign soil.
