Thunder Bluff

Thunder Bluff is the high-perched capital city of the tauren, rising hundreds of feet above the rolling plains of Mulgore. Founded by Cairne Bloodhoof following the Third War, it serves as the united sanctuary and cultural heart for a people who roamed as nomads for generations.

A Refuge Upon the Mesas

For countless generations, the tauren lived as nomadic wanderers across central Kalimdor, constantly beset by brutal centaur raiding parties. That era of flight ended during the Third War, when Cairne Bloodhoof forged a bond of honor with Warchief Thrall and the New Horde. Together, they drove back the centaur menace and claimed the fertile grasslands of Mulgore. Cairne gathered the scattered tribes and established Thunder Bluff atop a series of sweeping, natural stone mesas. Today, the city is connected by dizzying rope bridges and accessed by ingenious wooden elevators, offering both absolute defense and a bustling center of trade and spiritual assembly.

Unity and Gathering Mists

While Thunder Bluff stands as a beacon of harmony, its towering heights house diverse factions. Most tribes revere the wisdom of Cairne Bloodhoof, yet dissent quietly simmers among traditionalists such as Magatha Grimtotem and her kin on the Elder Rise. Deep beneath the city's surface lie the subterranean Pools of Vision, where spirit walkers and shaman peer into the ancestors' will. Despite underlying tribal rivalries, Thunder Bluff remains the true spiritual pillar of Kalimdor's Horde, welcoming hunters returning from the Barrens, traveling artisans, and druids communing with the Earth Mother.
