Once lush wetlands belonging to the ancient Black Morass, this desolate trench was utterly drained of life and turned the color of dried blood by chaotic fel energies leaking from the Dark Portal. Following Archimonde's defeat at Mount Hyjal during the Third War, surviving forces of the Burning Legion rallied in the south. The colossal ered'ruin Lord Kazzak claimed the Tainted Scar as his stronghold, stationing elite demons across its blackened rises and dispatching dreadful lieutenants like Razelikh the Defiler to hold dominion over the wasted red soils.

While most mortals shun the Scar on pain of agonizing death, practitioners of the dark arts find its saturated fel energies irresistible. An eccentric human warlock named Daio the Decrepit has taken up residence by a ruined demonic altar overlooking the horrors, using the rampant fiends to perform dark rituals and instruct aspiring warlocks in how to summon and bind dread infernals.
