WoW Forever Elwynn Forest Quest Guide: Where to Start and What to Do
Elwynn Forest is the human starting zone in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever), a farmland forest where levels 1 to 12 run through Northshire Valley, Goldshire, Eastvale Logging Camp and Westbrook Garrison before the road to Westfall. Warcraft Wiki says the original zone remains in Forever. No source has published Forever-specific quest changes, so this guide uses the original quest line.
Quick answer: Start in Northshire Valley (levels 1 to 5), move to Goldshire (5 to 10), do Eastvale Logging Camp, then finish the level 10 to 12 quests near Westbrook Garrison. Go on to Westfall, which is levels 10 to 20, and set your home inn in Goldshire.

Key facts
- Level range: Northshire Valley 1 to 5, Elwynn Forest 5 to 10, extra quests 10 to 12 (Warcraft Wiki questing guide).
- Starting race: Humans begin in Northshire Valley. Other races can quest there, but not every quest is open to them (Warcraft Wiki).
- Main hub: Goldshire, also the suggested home inn for levels 6 to 10 (Warcraft Wiki).
- Other stops: Northshire Abbey, Eastvale Logging Camp, Westbrook Garrison and Tower of Azora (Warcraft Wiki).
- Main threats: The Defias Brotherhood, kobolds, murlocs and the Riverpaw gnolls (Warcraft Wiki).
- Next zones: Westfall 10 to 20, Redridge Mountains 15 to 25, Duskwood 20 to 30 (Warcraft Wiki).
- Dungeons: None inside the zone. Deadmines is in Westfall and the Stockade is in Stormwind (Warcraft Tavern, Warcraft Wiki).
Where do you start in Elwynn Forest?
Northshire Valley is the human starting area, in the northern part of Elwynn Forest. Warcraft Wiki's questing guide says other races can quest there too, but not all quests are available to them. The valley covers levels 1 to 5, and Marshal McBride at Northshire Abbey recruits young humans into the army.
The first quests send you around the abbey and the valley, with Deputy Willem, Marshal McBride, Eagan Peltskinner, Milly Osworth and Falkhaan Isenstrider among the NPCs. The guide notes a mine at about 49, 37 that you approach for Investigate Echo Ridge and a shack near 57, 48 where you can find Garrick Padfoot. Finish the valley before you walk out to Goldshire.
What is the best quest order in Elwynn Forest?
Warcraft Wiki's questing guide suggests this order after Northshire:
- Goldshire (levels 5 to 10). Make the inn your home, which Warcraft Wiki suggests for levels 6 to 10, then collect the local quests. The farm chains from the Stonefield and Maclure families are described as easy, but they make you bounce back and forth between the farms.
- Eastvale Logging Camp. This is in eastern Elwynn near a bridge guarded by Guard Thomas. The guide says you can finish its quests with only one hike back to Goldshire near the end.
- Levels 10 to 12. The Westbrook Garrison, under Deputy Rainer, offers several quests. The guide places the Hogger wanted poster and the Gold Pickup Schedule here too.
The guide says William Pestle's quests have prerequisites and should be ignored by anyone arriving at level 10. It also says to clear the Brackwell Pumpkin Patch farm before attempting the quest called Princess. Fargodeep Mine is a kobold mine where Goldtooth can be killed for Bernice's Necklace.
Who are the key NPCs in Elwynn Forest?
- Marshal Dughan (Goldshire): leads the effort to reclaim Elwynn from kobolds and other threats.
- Marshal McBride (Northshire Abbey): recruits young humans.
- Guard Thomas (near Eastvale): works to remove the murloc foothold.
- Deputy Rainer (Westbrook Garrison): guards the border against the Riverpaw gnolls.
- William Pestle, Remy "Two Times" and the Stonefield and Maclure families: give Goldshire's farm and kobold quests.
Those descriptions come from Warcraft Wiki's Classic-era page for Elwynn Forest and its questing guide. They match the original zone, which the wiki says remains in Forever.
What enemies and factions are in Elwynn Forest?
The Defias Brotherhood is the strongest recurring threat, according to Warcraft Wiki. Most are in eastern Elwynn, their base is believed to be in Westfall, and the quest Red Linen Goods introduces them early. The Brackwell Pumpkin Patch is overrun by Defias. Kobolds infest Fargodeep Mine and Jasperlode Mine, and murlocs gather near Crystal Lake and Stone Cairn Lake.
The Collector, a drop quest, may link the gnolls near Ridgepoint Tower to the Defias. The Defias also drive part of the lore: see the Defias Brotherhood explained for who they are.
Where do you go after Elwynn Forest?
Warcraft Wiki's questing guide names Westfall as the next step, and says Ironforge is a tram ride away and Loch Modan suits the same levels. Its Classic zone page lists Westfall 10 to 20 to the south-west, Redridge Mountains 15 to 25 to the east and Duskwood 20 to 30 to the south. Our Alliance leveling zones guide has the full route from level 10 to 30, and the first 10 levels guide covers every starting zone.
The Deadmines, in Westfall, is the first returning dungeon on this path. Warcraft Tavern lists it at levels 15 to 22. See the Deadmines guide when you reach it.
What is the history of Elwynn Forest?
Both Warcraft Wiki and Wowpedia call Elwynn Forest the heartland of the Kingdom of Stormwind, with Stormwind City on its north-western edge. Both wikis say the Horde took Goldshire during its war on Stormwind. Warcraft Wiki dates that to year 4 after the Dark Portal and the end of the Second War to year 6, and Wowpedia says humans regained Elwynn when they retook their city at the end of the Second War.
Both wikis also tie the Defias Brotherhood to the Stonemasons Guild, which they say rebuilt Stormwind and went unpaid. For more on the city, read the Stormwind history guide. The free Lore Forever add-on adds readable background as you stand in each place. The optional Willo Windows companion lets you ask lore questions by voice.
What is not confirmed yet?
- Forever changes: Game Informer reports that Blizzard has not said which original zones are being overhauled, and Warcraft Wiki's Forever page lists "Expanded original zones" without naming them. No source lists changes to Elwynn.
- Level range: The Classic-era infobox says 1 to 10, while the quest range runs to 12.
- Beta data: The beta had a level 30 cap (Shacknews), so Elwynn could be played in it, but no guide documents Forever-only quests.
- Launch: November 4, 2026. Details may change.
