WoW Forever City of Dalaran Dungeon Guide and Lore
The City of Dalaran dungeon is an instanced version of the mage city in the Alterac Mountains, with eight bosses, mostly arcane damage and a key you must earn first. Warcraft Tavern lists it at roughly levels 28 to 33, and Method lists a clear time of 30 to 40 minutes. Sources disagree on the exact range, so treat it as provisional.
Quick answer: You need the Dalaran Sewers Key. Alliance players take "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore. Horde players start a chain with Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. Bosses: Atrexis, Arcane Anomaly, Arcanic Enigma, Unstable Sentinel, Fel Ancient, Mana Devourer and the Shade of the Archmage, plus the secret boss Lyn the Ignored.

At a glance
- Level range: about 28 to 33 (Warcraft Tavern). Method's guide gives 26 to 33 in the text and 28 to 35 in its stats box, so check the in-game recommendation.
- Location: the Alterac Mountains, with the entrance outside the city on the north-west side
- Bosses: eight, including one secret boss
- Clear time: about 30 to 40 minutes
- Access: the Dalaran Sewers Key
The dungeon is one of nine new WoW Forever dungeons. See the overview. Blizzard has not said which are open on launch day.
Getting the key
Alliance: pick up An Alarming Request from Emissary Jacques at Southshore Town Hall in Hillsbrad Foothills. It leads to Heart of Disruption, given by Archmage Modera in Silverpine Forest just outside the entrance.
Horde: a chain begins with Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills. It runs through Key to the City, Dalaran Patrols, Blood in the Streets and finally Heart of Disruption, with optional side quests along the way.
Method lists more level 24 quests inside the dungeon for each faction. Alliance quests include Power Overwhelming from High Sorcerer Andromath in Stormwind, and Horde quests include Source of Power from Doctor Martin Felben in the Undercity.
The dungeon in two parts
You start in the Dalaran Sewers, on the Cantrips and Crows Tavern side, then move into the city proper. Method's guide lists the bosses in this order:
- Atrexis the Grave Knight: patrols with three Kirin Tor Necromancers. Kill a couple before pulling. He disarms the main target and uses Raise Dead often.
- Lyn the Ignored (secret boss): needs the Tome of Dalaran. She casts Raise Dead, a Shadow Bolt Volley and Curse of Thorns on the tank, so decurse if you can.
- Arcane Anomaly: at Krasus Landing. Arcane Bolt on the tank and a three-second channeled beam, Focal Blast, that sweeps around the room.
- Arcanic Enigma: in the southern garden with two Mana Phantoms. Interrupt and stun the Phantoms so Mana Burn never lands. Random targets get a dispellable polymorph and a silence.
- Unstable Sentinel: in the trade area. A frontal cleave, plus a pulsing area attack within 25 yards that ranged players can avoid.
- Fel Ancient: in the center of the city. You need to talk to Grindle Firespark to remove barriers. It roots players for 10 seconds and leaves green damage pools, so move out quickly.
- Mana Devourer: near the Violet Hold. Clear the whole room first. Drain Vitality is an arcane damage-over-time on the main target, and Debilitate hits everyone and drains mana.
- Shade of the Archmage: the final boss, reached by speaking to Archmage Modera near the keep to open a portal to the Purple Parlor. Method says it appears to be a version of Aran from Karazhan, and that interpretation is the guide's. At zero mana he casts Mass Polymorph then Evocation, and the fight resets after it ends.
The secret boss
Lyn the Ignored needs the Tome of Dalaran. Method says to obtain it by completing a full run of Shadowfang Keep, then take the Black Tome from the table near Arugal's room to the town hall in Ambermill and use it with the Ley Line structure. The conditions are not fully described, so details may change.
Trash to respect
- Fallen Mage: Frostbolt on the main target. Pull with line of sight.
- Kirin Tor Necromancer: Raise Dead, and Unholy Frenzy gives 75% attack speed for 20 seconds.
- Phantasm: a Reflection Field reflects magic back at you.
- Saturated Remnant: arcane auto-attacks that tank Warriors and Paladins cannot block.
Most damage here is arcane, so bring interrupts, stock water for mana-burn mobs and expect shields to be less useful.
Loot highlights
Method lists loot per boss, including Graveweave Bindings (cloth wrist) from Atrexis, Wand of Mana Concentration from Arcanic Enigma, Felbough Arm (two-hand polearm) from the Fel Ancient and Archmagister's Faceted Pendant (neck) from the Shade. The Unstable Sentinel can drop the tailoring blueprint Spinning Wheel, and the Shade the enchanting blueprint Arcane Salvager. Treat drops as beta data.

The city and its history
Dalaran is the city of mages, home of the Kirin Tor. It was destroyed in the Third War when Kel'Thuzad summoned Archimonde, and the dungeon returns you to an instanced version of the city with arcane-themed enemies and references to the Kirin Tor and the Violet Hold. Read the three wars recap for how the city fell, and What Happened to Lordaeron? for the rest of the Third War in the north.
The free Lore Forever add-on adds background about Dalaran as you play. It is fan-made.
