The discarded shell fragments accumulate beneath their roosts, baked to remarkable hardness by the arid climate. While seemingly little more than brittle refuse to a casual wanderer, these sunscorched remains possess natural structural resilience that makes them an intriguing reagent for specialized artisans.

In Darnassus, the armorer Mathiel studies crafting methods pioneered by his colleague, the dwarf smith Furen Longbeard. Intrigued by Furen's discoveries, Mathiel uses these shells to create a fine lacquer capable of reinforcing mail armor. When properly processed and applied, the mineral-rich coating bonds to metallic links, adding substantial resilience without overburdening the wearer.
